Land Border Reopening between Canada and the U.S.

  • by

On November 8, 2021, the land border between Canada and the United States will be open both ways for the first time since March 2020.

Canada reopened its border to fully vaccinated non-essential travellers from the United States in August 2021. In November, the United States will open its border to fully vaccinated non-essential travellers from Canada.

Travellers are fully vaccinated if they have had the appropriate number of vaccinations according to the manufacturer’s recommendation at least 2 weeks before travelling.

Any issues still to be resolved revolve around testing for different types of travel to enter the country and return home. Travellers to the U.S. from Canada may not need a negative test to enter. However, Canadians returning home from the U.S. currently need a negative test within 72 hours of crossing the border.

Travellers should not have to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated and have a negative test.

The rules may change as the policies are rolled out.

An open land border between Canada and the U.S. will be welcome for fully vaccinated non-essential travellers.
